  • After 5 years, the other parent applies for partner visa.

  • Advantage: The second parent’s sponsorship of approximately A$50,000 can be saved and the requirement for the child’s tax return in Australia is significantly reduced.

What is Assurance of Support?

  • All parent visa requires a financial sponsor, who delivers a certain amount of financial sponsorship.

  • If the applicant receives certain government benefits during the financial sponsorship period, these benefits will be deducted from the financial sponsorship.

  • The financial sponsorship is provided prior to the granting of the visa and there are certain requirements for the financial sponsor’s tax refund. When the financial sponsorship expires, the financial sponsor can withdraw the financial sponsorship from the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

  • For Subclass 143 and Subclass 864, the AOS financial sponsorship is $10,000 for the principal applicant and $4,000 for the secondary applicant, and the sponsorship is refundable after 10 years.

  • For  Subclass 103 and Subclass 804, the principal applicant provides an AOS financial sponsorship of $5,000 and the secondary applicant provides $2,000, which is refundable after two years.
